discussed, there are researchers, librarians, and other information professionals
who defining the concept of information literacy from different perspectives. This
research is exploring different perspectives of information literacy that influenced
how the information literacy research and information literacy education has taken
place. To achieve that, recent researches into information literacy were collected
and analyzed. To date, there are four information literacy perspectives that
embedded in the research, which are behavioural, relational, and sociocultural
perspective. Behavioural has been the most and widely understood concept by
Indonesian scholars and professionals. While the others have not been widely
implemented yet. However, the results of this study have portrayed the complexity
of information literacy, and a dynamic practice that acts as an accelerator to
learning in all everyday life contexts. It also affirmed the importance of discussing
the phenomenon of information literacy within the context in which it is experienced
by information users.

I. INTRODUCTION
Information literacy has emerged as a significant issue in Indonesian
higher education and some communities in recent years. It shows that
Information literacy has been the subject of considerable discussion. The
discussion has become more evident by the rapid growth in the availability
of information and the development of technology used to generate,
disseminate, access and manage that information. This is also because the
concept of information literacy has been understood widely by most of
the Indonesian scholars as to the required skill to access, manage and use
information in such a way so that others can learn from them (ALA, 1989).
This interest in information literacy is mostly a result of the idea of lifelong
learning.
The importance of information literacy for lifelong learning has
captured the attention for most of Indonesian educators and information
professionals throughout the country.
The term of information literacy has also been assigned to librarians
in Indonesia who determined to promote library or information based
education. All have come from the need to support an individual to
become information literate in a rapidly and continually changing world of
information (Bruce, 1997).
The changes in the information environment are identified by increases
in the volume of information and changes in information technology. And
these changes are likely to be ongoing. It is expected that anyone needs to
