Kajian Dalam Bidang Ilmu Perpustakaan dan Informasi: Filosofi, Teori, dan Praktik
experience Open Access as part of their information literacy. The research
employed a qualitative method by using a semi-structured interview for
collecting data. The data was then analyzed by implementing Thematic
Analysis which aim to explore different patterns of how the researchers
experience Open Access. The emphasis of the research is not merely on
Open Access or information literacy alone, but the intersection of these two
concepts. However, the theoretical framework of information literacy that
was used for the research is the relational perspective. This perspective is
considered to be the most appropriate for the current research as the main
purpose of the research is not measuring the information literacy skills
but exploring how the Australian researchers experience their information
world which in this research open access is situated as the context.
Therefore, this article is intended to discuss different perspectives of
information literacy collected from recent researches. The discussion of
these perspectives is including behavioural, relational, and sociocultural
perspective. The description of these perspectives is discussed in the
following section.
IV. DISCUSSION
A. Theoretical Perspective of Information Literacy
As already mentioned in a previous section, there is a number of
ways in which the concept of information literacy understood. Limberg,
Sundin, and Talja (2002) noted that understandings of information literacy
differ based upon the “theoretical lens from which it is approached” (p.
93). In addition, these different theoretical perspectives have influenced
the objective of research into information literacy, and the way in which
information literacy education is conceived (Yates, Partridge & Bruce,
2015). These varying perspective on information literacy has been identified
and discussed (Markless & Streadfield, 2007; Bruce, 2008; Lloyd & Talja,
2010). The three main theoretical perspectives for information literacy
include:
a. Behavioural
b. Relational
c. Sociocultural
1) Behavioural Perspective
The behavioural perspective describes and understands information
literacy as a collection of skills and behaviours, which individuals possess
to acquire and use information (Bruce, 1997). This perspective is closely
associated with the work of Christina Doyle (1992) who conducted a study
