Kajian Dalam Bidang Ilmu Perpustakaan dan Informasi: Filosofi, Teori, dan Praktik
born a further thought than just the idea of educating the nation. That was
the idea of information literacy which was even higher than intelligent
because information literacy was believed to make the Indonesian people
to become a lifelong learner. So important is this information literacy,
even the government through the Ministry of Education and Culture
has launched a School Literacy program, starting from elementary to
high school. Because literacy is thought as complicated and needs deep
thinking, people considered that it is very appropriate if this program is
conducted by librarians and their libraries because these two components
have occupied the most information and knowledge.
In the implementation of this information literacy program, the
interaction between librarians and library users are even closer because
librarians must be sure that the users has mastered information literacy
which is shown by high library visits and skills in searching, evaluating
and using information. Library space is an ideal location for librarians to
teach users to be information literate. At the same time, the library has a
permanent role, that is to store collections and lend collections to the users.
At first, the users came to the library because the collections needed or
desired were only in the library. And because librarians were the masters
of collections in libraries, the users really depended on the willingness of
librarians to serve the needs of collections. But that form of interaction was
no longer between the librarians as the giver and the users as the receivers,
but the ones who teach and guides and those who are taught and guided.
Along with the development of interactions between librarians and
users, in the library there is also a developing Internet-based information
and communication technology that directly interferes the library in all
matters, ranging from collection development (selection and acquisition),
collection processing (including material transformation and data storage),
collection services (online and digital collection services), to information
marketing (utilization of all social media platforms). The development of
this technology subsequently gave birth to many Internet-based computer
programs that were deliberately created to assist library work and librarians
in managing libraries which were all oriented to user satisfaction. Then
the librarians began to make their libraries use computer-engineered
applications, regardless how they fit into the library>s profile or whether
the user needs it. The application of information and communication
technology brought major changes to the library, which began with changes
in library services. If previously the user could see the librarians when they
liked to use or to borrow collections, now the users are only starring at a
monitor that can serve whatever the users want. Librarians then proudly
say that now users can more easily and quickly order, borrow and access
