McKenzie (2003)
Two dimensional of information practices model by McKenzie
(2003) that focuses on pregnant women ISB was identified on thesis ID
M-02. The results showed that pregnant women have an important role
and responsibility in caring for their babies or babies to be. To make wise
decisions, therefore, mothers have to seek information. The result also
showed that the model fits the ISB of the informants and showed the type
of differences in the informants’ characteristics in information seeking; for
example, some informants are more active than others, and the active ones
do different practices more often than passive ones.
Related to the research in “everyday-life” information seeking (McKenzie,
2003; Savolainen, 2010), McKenzie proposes a distinction between exploratory
(high-level) and immersive (low-level) search activities (2003). This model
is different because many of the models described thus far assume a linear
relationship between search (directed searching) and browsing (undirected
searching) activities. Others have proposed nonlinear (Foster, 2004) and multi-
faceted (Chang and Rice, 1993) models (White, 2016).
A case study on pregnant women ISB is one of examples that the
transitions between these high- and low-level activities that may be
common when people are exploring information spaces are not well
supported in existing search interfaces and need to be handled explicitly
to help searchers successfully tackle a more comprehensive set of search
tasks (White & Roth, 2009; Dörk et al., 2011).
